Cooking Class

Come sample an array of delectable fillings for herbal vegetarian "handwiches" Pita pockets or Ezekiel wraps filled with herbal white bean spread, assorted raw and lightly steamed and seasoned veggies, BBQ onions, nut pate, sautéed mushrooms, avocado slices, and rice cheese. Gingered slaw as an accompaniment and a Tofu chocolate pie for dessert!

Sat. May 3 1:00 “Herbal Adaptogens for Weekend Warriors”
 
Demo/Class
This class will introduce students to herbal adaptogens. Learn how these natural plants products nourish and strengthen the body. Adaptogens can increase the availability of energy during the day, reduce stressful feelings, increase endurance and mental alertness, and promote deep and restful sleep.

Tues. May 6, 6:00-7:30  Erin’s Meadow Herb Club Meeting.
Everyone is Welcome! May Agenda: Plant Swap and “Herb Blurbs” When digging and dividing this spring, set a few clumps aside to swap at the meeting (bring clumps in pots or plastic bags). Bring garden magazines or catalogs to exchange as well. Herb Blurbs are just small bits of info about any herb of your choice! This is a great way to learn about herbs. All activities are optional
 
   
Sat. May 10, 11:00-2:00  “Tea Tasting in the Herb Gardens”
Tickle your taste buds with a variety of herbal ice teas. Spicy, sweet, floral and fruit flavors all created from herbs in our gardens. Tour the beautiful herb gardens, learn how to make herb teas, and enjoy the enchanting music of Liz and Tim. A perfect outing for Mother’s Day!

Sat. May 17 1:00-4:00  “Plant Spirit Medicine” Workshop
Through the techniques of field study observation and shamanic dream journey, learn how to begin or deepen your relationship with nature through plants. You are invited to experience a connection with unique allies who can support us in our healing journey – our plant brothers and sisters. Refreshments will be served at end of workshop.
 

What to bring:
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes for walking and sitting
  • Towel, blanket, or portable chair if you don’t want to    sit/lie down directly on the ground
  • Sunscreen/bug spray, if desired
  • Sketch pad, pen/pencil, colored pencils for note taking and sketching
  • Optional: field guide(s) for local wildflowers

Sat. May 24 10:30  “A Beginner’s Guide to Using Fresh Herbs in the Kitchen” Cooking Class
Fresh herbs can be a delicious and healthy addition to many meals. Discover how to use the most popular culinary herbs in salads, main courses and deserts. On the menu: Tomato, corn, sweet onion salad with a touch of lavender; Basil roasted vegetables over couscous; Tarragon chicken; Lemon thyme bars.

This is the second in a new series of classes that focuses on growing, cooking with, and using a specific herb. Each student will receive a Lavender plant.
