Sat. 10:30 – 12:00<br>Discover the calming and restorative qualities of valerian. Known for centuries as a traditional herb for relaxation and restful sleep, valerian is a hardy perennial herb with fragrant flower clusters and medicinal roots valued in herbal preparations. Participants will learn about the history and traditional uses of valerian, including how it is commonly used in teas and tinctures to support relaxation, ease tension, and promote healthy sleep.<br>Explore how to successfully grow valerian in the home garden, including preferred growing conditions, soil, sunlight, watering needs, and harvesting techniques. Learn when and how to dig, dry, and store valerian root for herbal use while gaining confidence in creating your own herbal remedies at home. Students will enjoy demonstrations, sampling and take home an informative handout. <br>
Herbal Medicine Making – Discover Vulnerary Herbs July 18th
Saturday 10:30 - 12:00<br>Explore the fascinating world of vulnerary herbs — plants traditionally valued for supporting the healing of cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, rashes, and irritated skin. The word “vulnerary” comes from the Latin word vulnus, meaning wound, and these herbs have been used for generations in home herbal care.<br>In this introductory class, participants will learn about several common vulnerary herbs and how they are traditionally prepared as salves, infused oils, poultices, compresses, and herbal washes for topical use. Students will enjoy demonstrations, herbal sampling, and take home an informative handout.<br><br>
